The Western Maine Art Group is pleased to provide our first annual Lajos Matolcsy Memorial Art Scholarship of $250 to Ian Allen, of West Paris. Ian graduated this year from Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School and will be attending Alfred University in upstate New York near Cornell Glassworks this Fall, where he will pursue his interests in glass sculptures and art design.
Lajos Matolcsy was born in 1905 in the former Austro-Hungarian village of Szerencs, and founded our organization in 1962. He was prominent in the community for his support and teaching of artists, sculptors and the arts in Western Maine. This memorial scholarship recognizes the importance of his creative, energetic genius and his support of our artistic community.
Rebecca Dowse, Vice-President of our art organization is pictured here with Ian at our Art Gallery at 426 Main Street in Norway.
