Sandra is a painter who delights in the medium of watercolor. She has painted from home studios in Maine, Vermont and West Virginia for over thirty years, and enjoys a style that is a dance between fluidity and exactness. She loves the way that watercolor depicts light, shadow and mystery. Recently, she has returned to painting in oils as a way of broadening her artistic experience.

Sandra has earned signature status in the Philadelphia, Vermont, West Virginia and North East Watercolor Societies. She is a sustaining member of the American Watercolor Society. Her paintings are in private and public collections throughout the US and Canada and have won many awards including: Best of Show in the West Virginia Watercolor Aqueous 2016 for “Land Line,” an Award of Excellence for ” Multitasking” at the North East International Watercolor Exhibition in Kent, Connecticut, which was judged by Mel Stabin in 2012.

She won the Henry Macuga Memorial Award for “Sharing the Journey” at the Chaffee Gallery, Rutland, Vermont, as part of the Vermont Watercolor Society Exhibition judged by Stephen Quiller in 2012. She gained a1st Place Award in Watercolor at the Waterville, Maine, Intown Art Festival in 2013, and a 2nd place Award in the Waterville Intown Art Festival in 2012. She also won 1st Place in Watercolors at the 2011 Bangor Art Society’s Juried Exhibition and an Award of Excellence for “Amber Pears on Silk” at the Signature West Virginia Watercolor Exhibition in 2011.

Sandra moved to Maine in 2009, but has been painting Maine scenes since 2001, when she first stayed on Monhegan Island, (and where she returned frequently to paint). She says Maine is a tremendous inspiration, providing excellent light and subject matter for landscapes and still-life’s – particularly flowers. She enjoys including figures in her work.
