“A Brush with Art” Summer Art Lessons at the Matolcsy Art Center

Pastel Class for Beginners

Join award-winning artist, Barbara Traficonte, for a three week class on Thursday afternoons, May 28, June 4, June 11, from 12:30 – 3:30 pm. Class fee is $27.50 per week, $82.50 for three weeks. Study topics will include pastels, substrates, color, value, intensity and mark making.

Pastel Class for Intermediate Students

Take your pastel studies to the next level with Barbara Traficonte on Wednesday afternoons, July 1, 8, 15, 22, 29, from 12:30 – 3:30 pm. If you are new to the medium, the basic class (above) is highly recommended. The intermediate class may be en plein air and/or in the Matolcsy Art Center, depending on the weather and the lesson for the day. The class will work from a still life set-up or a photo if we meet inside. The fee is $137.50 for five weeks paid in advance or at the first class.

Drawing and Painting Classes for youths, supplies provided

Rochelle Draper, author, illustrator and artist, will teach students to draw animals, people, faces and hands in the first hour of class and basic acrylic painting in the second hour. Classes are Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 9:30 – 11:30 am.

  • Week Three: July 21, 22, 23
  • Week Four: July 28, 29, 30

The fee for each week is $60 for 6 hours of instruction.

Meet the Masters for Kids, supplies provided

Join Rochelle Draper, author, illustrator and artist, for an art class on basic recognition of the four Master Artists and hands-on experience of each Master’s style.

Thursdays from 9:30– 11:00 am. $35 for each 2-hour class.

Watercolorist, Lynn Driscoll, offers four workshops to bring color into your summer with these fun-filled “How to” classes for beginners. If you have some experience, Lynn will take you to the next level. She will teach you how to mix a few pigments together to make beautiful colors, along with teaching many exciting and easy techniques. Plenty of painting will be going on in this class, five hours! So, pack your snacks and a lunch and come ready to be amazed at how easy painting with watercolors can be!

Weekly Watercolor Sessions

Session I: Tuesdays, June 23, June 30, July 7, July 14, from 12:30 -3:30 pm

(12 hours) $130 per student

Session II: Thursdays, August 6, 13, 20, 27, from 12:30 – 3:30 pm (12 hours) $130 per student

You will have time between lessons to practice and improve on your own at home. Classes are limited to 12 students with a minimum of 5 students per workshop. A supply list will be sent to each student. Approximate pricing for supplies is about $60.

Full payment must be received no later than one week before the scheduled class: Lynn Driscoll, 95 Sweden Road, Bridgton, ME 04009. If a workshop is cancelled students will be reimbursed in full.

Colored Pencil Class

Learn colored pencil techniques with Pamela Morra on Thursday evenings at the Matolcsy Art Center from 5-8 pm. This 5-week class is suitable for beginning and intermediate students.
