On July 11, the Western Maine Art Group and Norway Downtown collaborate to stage the 2015 Norway Arts Festival. This year Norway’s historic Main Street will be closed to traffic from 9 to 4 to create a relaxed pedestrian mall for artists, artisans, musicians, non-profit exhibitors, and food vendors. The festival provides an opportunity to see and purchase art and crafts from artists and artisans from near and far.
This year’s festival features $2000 in prizes for fine art, photography, and artisan work, with a special non-category prize of $500 for the festival’s best work. This reflects this year’s emphasis on attracting and displaying fine art. Julieanne Reed, an accomplished artist and graduate of Maine College of Art, will judge the work and help award the prizes. Prize winners will be announced at one o’clock in Longley Square..
Other events include an ice cream social sponsored by the Unitarian Universalist Church, a performance by Poets on the Porch at 11:00 at the Weary Club, two used book sales sponsored by Friends of the Library and the Second Congregational Church, the Marigold Tea Room sponsored by the Norway Historical Society, a student art exhibit and children’s activity at the Matolcsy Art Center sponsored by the Western Maine Art Group, live music of local musicians at Tucker’s Pub from 12 to 4, a performance by singer Barry Wood at 2:00 at the stage in Longley Square, and tours of the Norway Opera House.
Food will be available from Norway’s fine local restaurants in addition to the festival’s vendors.
