NAF Announces Judges and Prizes

The Norway Arts Festival is pleased to announce its schedule of prizes and judges for this year’s juried art show at the Norway Arts Festival.  The Festival showcases fine artists on Main Street in historic Norway, 9AM – 4PM, July 9th. The juried work will be displayed in a gallery setting for the day at the Matolcsy Arts Center.  Main Street will be closed to traffic creating a pedestrian mall for artist booths, performances, plein air demonstrations and free artist workshops.

$2000 in prizes is offered this year, including  $500 for Best in Show;  $200 for First Prize in the three categories of painting, photography, and sculpture/craft and $100 for Second Prize in each of these groups.

The judges are Caren Michel and Mary Brooking from Westbrook and Jay York from Portland.
Caren Michel is a contemporary landscape painter.  Her work has been selected for juried shows in Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Colorado and Washington. In Maine, Michel’s work has been exhibited at Bates College Museum of Art, Aucocisco Galleries, Atrium Gallery at USM-LA, Carver Hill Gallery, The Jameson Gallery, North Light Gallery, Littlefield Gallery and the College of the Atlantic.

Jay Yorl is a photographer of fine art in Portland, Maine.  His love of art and artists and his family ties to Norway bring him to our festival this year.

Mary Brooking also has an attachment to Norway.  She is a painter, a teacher and the owner of Continuum for Creativity in Westbrook.   Mary’s a former member of the Commons Art Collective and her art will be in Café Nomad for the month of July.
