Featured Artist Around Town
The Western Maine Art Group is pleased to recognize watercolorist Madeline Wikler of Harrison as our featured Artist Around Town for the month of August. Madeline and her husband spend 4 months each summer on Long Lake in Harrison, where they have been living for 23 years. The rest of the year they make their residence in Silver Spring, MD. She has one daughter living in Arizona and another daughter living in California and four grandsons.
Madeline works both in her studio and out-of-doors, and enjoys the surprises that come with using a limited palette of transparent watercolors. Recently she has been experimenting with pouring and glazing to find abstract elements for her paintings. Painting gives her the “joy of being in the moment,” whether painting landscapes, informal children’s portraits, scenes from her extensive travels, or florals.
To see more of Madeline’s work and to find out about her studios, you can visit her website at: www.madelinewikler.com, and she may be reached via email firstname.lastname@example.org. Here is one of her recent paintings of a favorite local pond with a mountain backdrop (Kayak Morning). She will be displaying a number of her floral paintings at the McLaughlin Gardens in South Paris during August (the opening reception is August 10th).
