2013 Lajos Matolcsy Memorial Scholarship Application Form

The Western Maine Art Group is pleased to announce our first annual 2013 Lajos Matolcsy Memorial Art Scholarship of $250 to be awarded to a graduating Oxford Hills Senior who will be pursuing further education in the Arts field after graduation this June.

Lajos Matolcsy was born in 1905 in the former Austro-Hungarian village of Szerencs, founded our organization in 1962 and was prominent in the community for his support and teaching of artists, sculptors and the arts in general.  In his early days, he made his own brushes, created his own paints and continued to enjoy painting landscapes,Dress design, portraits in oils, nudes, water colors, pen-and-ink and colored pencils.  He enjoyed painting murals for churches and also painting Maine coastal scenes.  We wish to recognize the importance of his creative, energetic genius and support of our artistic community in Western Maine through this scholarship.
